Miley Cyrus' "Bangerz" is set to bang the gong at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week.
Industry sources suggest that the album -- released yesterday (Oct. 8) -- could sell around 250,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Oct. 13.
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
"Bangerz" is on course to sell more than twice the opening sum Cyrus' last album, 2010's "Can't Be Tamed." It debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 102,000 sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. To date, the set has moved 348,000.
Cyrus' new album was led by the single "We Can't Stop," which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Its follow-up track, "Wrecking Ball," became the singer's first No. 1 on the Hot 100 last month.
"Bangerz's" potential start is on par with that of some other female pop singers in recent years. For example, Rihanna's "Unapologetic" started at No. 1 last year with 238,000 and Britney Spears' "Femme Fatale" launched at No. 1 in early 2011 with 276,000. P!nk saw her first No. 1 album, "The Truth About Love," debut atop the list with 280,000 in 2012.
If "Bangerz" debuts at No. 1, it would be Cyrus' fifth chart-topper -- counting her soundtrack work as "Hannah Montana."
Cyrus will lead a number of new entries in the top 10 next week. Other albums heading for a handsome start include Panic at the Disco's "Too Weird To Live, Too Rare to Die!," Pusha T's "My Name Is My Name" and Korn's "Paradigm Shift." Panic may sell around 90,000, while Pusha is heading for an 80,000 start. Korn's new effort could land with 40,000.
