[News] Britney Spears inspired by Miley

Women and men, the young and the old, singers and non-singers—we all want to be like Britney Spears!
But who does the original pop princess look to for inspiration? Ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake (!), mega-talent Beyoncé, BFF Miley Cyrus and a few more of her pop contemporaries.
"Bruno Mars is so different and fresh, and Justin Timberlake is, too," she told USA Today Friday, Dec. 27, before kicking off her Piece of Me tour in Las Vegas. "It's inspiring for me, and it makes people eager to listen to music, which helps everyone."
The 32-year-old singer also said she "looks up to Beyoncé" because "what she did with her (surprise release) album was genius, really brilliant."
As for Miley Cyrus, who was dancing and singing along front row and center at Brit's show? "She's cool, she's fun to be around," she gushed. "You know, she's got really good energy."

[Lists] Do Something's Top 20 Celebs Gone Good of 2013: #14 Miley Cyrus

The Do Something website released a list of 20 celebrities who have done more good in the past year and Miley is at #14!

Have you heard of Miley Cyrus? She used to be on this Disney show, she twerked at a big video awards show this year...she basically became the official Pop Culture President of 2013. Not only did she make headlines pretty much every week this year, and have a questionable relationship with a hammer in the controversial Wrecking Ball video (but seriously, the song is sooooo good!), she ALSO managed to use her platform (read: nipples) for good. This December, Cyrus tweeted a photo of herself outside in the snow, with her shirt lifted up and hearts blocking any real nudity to support the indie film Free the Nipple, a documentary questioning censorship of the U.S. media in regards to the naked female body and the lack of censorship in the media to violence. Biggest year of her career AND using social media to raise awareness for a good cause? #thebestofbothworlds

Check out the full list here.

[Lists] EW's 10 Best Music Performances of 2013: #9 Miley at the AMAs

Entertainment Weekly published a list of the 10 best performances this year and Miley's American Music Awards performance made it at #9!

Cyrus' performance of ''Wrecking Ball'' was a pure manifestation of millennial id made flesh. But beneath the kitty-GIF theatrics, there was also her disarmingly powerful voice, and the innate power that put her everywhere in 2013: her ability to toy with us like a tabby whose yarn ball was the pop game itself.

Check out the full list here and watch Miley's memorable performance below. ;)

[Lists] Billboard's Top 20 Music Moments of 2013: #1 Miley Cyrus

It was a year of blockbuster comebacks, surprise albums, game-changing moves in hip-hop, twerking teddy bears and tearful goodbyes of all kinds. For sure, 2013 kept us busy. These are the 20 biggest music moments in a 12 month span that was crammed with milestones.

#1 - Miley Can't Stop: The Year's Most Talked-About Pop Star
Miley Cyrus was a maelstrom that expanded and grazed nearly every aspect of pop culture in 2013, from stop-in-your-tracks performances to salacious music videos, from the tabloid sections to the "twerking" enthusiasts. At the eye of that storm, however, were some of the biggest and best singles of the year. A veteran recording artist at the ripe old age of 21, Cyrus reinvented herself this year with the trap-happy party cut "We Can't Stop," which rode a Mike WiLL Made-It Beat to No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart. Its follow-up, "Wrecking Ball," was even more inescapable, smashing the listener with a chorus as powerful as its titular object and giving Cyrus the first No. 1 single of the career (and about a million viral parodies to coincide with that achievement). Sure, Cyrus courted controversy throughout 2013, but her antics were bolstered by raw musical talent; consider her American Music Awards performance, which paired a context-free blinking cat with a moving performance of "Wrecking Ball." Cyrus was savvy enough to rule the headlines and the charts this year, making the "Bangerz" star the most enduring figure of 2013.

[Interview] Miley Cyrus on Her Jump to Sexy Twerker

In 2013, Miley Cyrus wagged her tongue and set tongues wagging. Thanks to a handful of steamy videos, some outrageous wardrobe choices and an erotic comedic performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, Ms. Cyrus took the warp-speed path from directionless ex-child star (as the Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana) to the most directional of pop stars, sliding easily into the role of pop’s enfant terrible. Her album “Bangerz” (RCA) — for which she’ll begin touring in February — was notable for its risk-taking attitude in a year when her competition played it frustratingly smooth.
One recent morning, she was at the Four Seasons in New York after a bumpy weekend in which she missed a show in Boston because of weather, then had problems with her voice. But even at the early hour, she was focused and businesslike and hyper self-aware, joking about getting a little Bailey’s for her coffee. These are excerpts from the conversation.

Q. I was struck in your MTV documentary “Miley: The Movement” by how aware of the V.M.A.s’ importance you were.
A. But I didn’t know that I was going to be the only one that was really going to push it like that. It’s actually really funny how many people could watch my performance, and they think it was, like, sexist and degrading to women, and somehow people found that it was racist, which I couldn’t even wrap my mind around. Because I’m like: “How do I win? If I have white dancers, then I’m racist. If I have black girl dancers, then I’m racist.” We know we’re not racist, and I know I’m not putting down women. People got a rise out of me saying that I was a feminist, but I am. I’m telling women be whoever you want to be.

As people have brought these things up to you over the last year, has it changed your personal thinking about race?
No, I never let that change me. My grandma, who is alive, was living in a time where there was no way in hell that she would’ve ever thought there would’ve been a black president. I mean, never. And my grandma’s like, not even 80, so this is in a short period of time that things have changed so much. I really thought about it a lot when Nelson Mandela passed away, because I couldn’t even imagine living this life and seeing how much it’s changed. So, you know, I look forward to when I’m older, my kids being like, “What do you mean people ever even talked about what color your dancers were?”

You obviously know that the primary visual imprint of you from the last six months is either the V.M.A.s or your videos.
I went from people just thinking I was, like, a baby to people thinking I’m this, like, sex freak that really just pops molly and does lines all day. It’s like, “Has anyone ever heard of rock ’n’ roll?” There’s a sex scene in pretty much every single movie, and they go, “Well, that’s a character.” Well, that’s a character. I don’t really dress as a teddy bear and, like, twerk on Robin Thicke, you know?
Last night, I was talking about some Madonna performances, and I said, “At some point, everything becomes irrelevant.” Like, no one even thinks about when she did “Like a Virgin” at the V.M.A.s. That just becomes a standard, where it’s just like, “Oh, that’s her thing.” So, I feel like now that I did the V.M.A.s, that just kind of became a standard for me, and then anytime I do anything else, they’re like, “Miley kept it tame tonight.”

How closely do you watch what other pop stars are doing?
I watch everyone’s music videos, to the point where I’m O.C.D., looking at every single thing they’re wearing and what they’re doing. Before, because I didn’t have my own personal self yet, it was hard for me to watch that kind of stuff. I was so jealous of what everyone else got to do, because I didn’t get to truly be myself yet. But now I realize how much they’re not being themselves either. You don’t have to be signed to Disney Channel to be put in a box, or to be rated PG. I’m with artists sometimes, and I’ll take a picture of them or whatever. They make me delete it.

You’re not serious.
Yeah, it’s insane. I’ll get someone to, like, flash me, and they’ll be, like, “You have to delete it!” I had to do that when I was 14 or 15, but even then I didn’t care. Like, if someone was videoing me ripping a bong, I didn’t care, so it’s just funny to me. I’m like: “Dude, you’re 30. Like, why can’t someone see a picture of your [breasts]?”
I don’t have a bunch of celeb friends, because I feel like some of them are a little scared of the association. This is terrible. I was backstage with [the rising pop star] Ariana Grande. I’m like, “Walk out with me right now and get this picture, and this will be the best thing that happens to you, because just you associating with me makes you a little less sweet.”

It’s less A-line dress.
Exactly. She’s trying. I see her wearing the shorter things. She comes in, and she goes, “This made me feel like you.” And I’m like, “That was like my sixth grade prom dress.” She’s, I think, still on Nickelodeon. She has people that she has to kind of respect.

She has contracts.
And answer to, exactly. Things came out that happened — like, you know, bong videos — when I was on Disney. But I never wanted to do that to Disney. When I was no longer employed by anyone, that’s when I was like, “O.K., I’m going to do my own thing.” But I waited until I felt like I had respectfully finished out what I was supposed to do, you know?

Did you feel a way about Joe Jonas outing you and Demi Lovato as having been the ones to introduce him to pot?
If you want to smoke weed, you’re going to smoke weed. There’s nothing that two little girls are going to get you to do that you don’t want to do. I thought maybe he was saying that like it was going to make him look badass.

It’s the opposite.
We were so young that it’s actually like, “How did you get peer pressured by me?”

Was it true that you had a Vogue cover pulled because of the V.M.A.s?
I can’t say too much. But it was where I was kind of going to have to do this trade-off, and I wasn’t willing to. Right now, me doing any kind of cover for anything that’s like, a Seventeen or Teen Vogue or whatever, the way that I talk isn’t the way that people that are 17 really understand. There was a thing that Kurt Cobain said, something like, “There’s a special place in hell for people that glamorize drugs,” and I never want to be that person that’s, like, talking to 16- and 17-year-olds and being like, “Smoke weed.” I’ve got a little sister. I don’t want her to smoke weed, and it’s not because I think weed is bad, but — —

When she’s old enough to make that choice.
Right, she’ll make the choice. Or even, like, my language. I don’t know how to not talk the way I talk. I would rather have everything I do be 100 percent honest. I just want to be who I am.

Every generation has its moral panic, and it happens to be you this year, and two years from now, it’ll be someone else.
Exactly. Even when I hear that — that someone, two years from now, is going to be the next kind of provocateur — like, I can’t wait to collab with whoever the hell that is, you know? I’m like, whoever that is, I’m going to ride that wave.

[Lists] Fashion magazine's Top 10 Fashion Influencers of 2013: Miley Cyrus

Capping off a year in style always seems so, for lack of a better word, crazy. With just about a meme a minute and the web’s proclivity for hyperbole (we’re guilty), there seem to have been so many “best moments ever.” Many of those moments involved the 10 influencers on this list, which helps. But many of them, like this, this and this will just live in our mind for all eternity until we fixate on something else. Meanwhile, here’s who we think was at the top of their game in 2013.

Miley Cyrus

From the VMAs to our November issue cover to the impending release of her latest controversial video, what hasn’t Miley Cyrus influenced (or should we incited) this year? In the fashion world, it was her wholehearted embracing of the nineties revival that made her the talk of the town as well as Marc Jacobs’ latest It girl.

[News] The Blonds Are Designing Miley Cyrus' Bangerz Tour Outfits

Today, in the BEST NEWS EVER, Miley Cyrus revealed via Twitter that design duo The Blonds will be creating the wardrobe for her upcoming Bangerz tour. YAAS! Can you handle it? We can't. This is a match made in high-cut leotard heaven. The Blonds (David and Phillipe Blond, IRL) have long been lauded for their structured, innovative bodysuits—and going sans pants is basically Miley's M.O. these days. (See also: Jingle Ball, the AMAs, the EMA, etc. etc. x a million.)

Of course, Miley isn't the first pop star who's recruited David and Phillipe to design a series of onstage outfits: Ke$ha, Beyonce, and Katy Perry are among the many, MANY performers who've worn an embellished Blonds creation on tour. And, I mean, if Beyonce dared to flash sculpted boobs on HER Blonds bodysuit, just imagine the possibilities with Miley. For most of her Jingle Ball dates, Cyrus has been snuggling up with a hefty fur coat, so we can totally see that translating into some colorful maribou feathers, à la The Blonds' Spring 2014 collection.

Here are some things we hope to see on Miley's customized garments: shiny gems, emojis, tongues, more shiny gems, NSFW symbols, Hannah Montana's face, twerking bears, pasties, wrecking balls, and ALL THE SHINY GEMS. So, yeah. Can we see some sketches already? Kthx.

(Update: Turns out, Kenzo will ALSO be designing some performance gear for Miley's 'Bangerz' Tour, according to a recent tweet. We're dead.)

[Lists] Billboard's 20 Best Songs of 2013: #1 We Can't Stop, #13 Wrecking Ball!

The Billboard.com Critics' Picks songs list is always difficult to cobble together -- with thousands of great songs released this year to consider, how can a group responsibly highlight the best of the best with one 20-song list? Although there were dozens more we would have liked to include, the following 20 songs are the tracks that had us head-banging, contemplating, tearing up and twerking. Behold: the 20 indispensable songs of 2013.

#1 "We Can't Stop"
Maybe the history books will remember the twerking and tongue-unfurling of the music video, but "We Can't Stop" was one of the bolder musical choices in recent memory, and that risk paid off tremendously. From the moment that Mike WiLL Made-It's beat kicks in with a screwed-down call of "IT'S OUR PARTY, WE CAN DO WHAT WE WANT," Cyrus torched her Disney-approved image under the hottest flame of the year.

#13 "Wrecking Ball"
Swinging nude atop a wrecking ball tends to leave one pretty exposed, but "Wrecking Ball" is even more naked than its music video -- Cyrus sounds on the verge of tears as the song swivels away from its chorus, but then the hook crashes back in with the power of a… well, you know.

[News] Simon Cowell's dream 'X Factor' judge is Miley

In a recent interview, 'X factor' judge and producer Simon Cowell revealed he would like Miley to be a judge in the next season of his show. Check out what he said below:

“I would pick Paula and Randy from American Idol [as judges], they were my favorite judges because we had an incredible time together. The last spot would be reserved for someone who would be really fun to watch. I recently met Miley Cyrus, and I really liked her, she has an opinion for sure.”

It was just announced that Miley was the most searched person on Google this year, followed by Drake, Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber and Beyonce in the top five.

[Articles] Miley Cyrus' New Year's Eve Performance Plans: She Can't Ride the Ball When It Drops, Says Ryan Seacrest

Why did Miley Cyrus cancel her New Year's Eve appearance in Miami to instead perform in NYC during the Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest show?
According to Ryan Seacrest, the 21-year-old "Wrecking Ball" singer couldn't pass up the chance to take over Times Square for the end-of-the-year holiday.
"A couple weeks ago I ran into her and I said, ‘All right, this has been your year,'" Seacrest told E! News recently at Z100's 2013 Jingle Ball in NYC. "'You've got so much going for you, a lot of buzz. You've gotta perform in Times Square right before midnight.' And she said, ‘OK, I'm in.'"
Seacrest says Cyrus won't be getting anywhere near the ball when it drops, à la her infamous "Wrecking Ball" music video.
"This is a ball she cannot touch," he smiled. "This one she cannot. She's not allowed to. But she can be standing under it when it goes down, when it drops."
"I don't know what to expect from her," he added. "We've seen so many wild performances all year. This one is outside and the temperature's very cold generally. So we shall see."
Also at Jingle Ball in NYC was Enrique Iglesias, who tells us he'd love to work with Cyrus on some music.
"Miley would be cool," he gushed. "I love her music and I think what she's done lately has been great. There's a lot of controversy with what she's done lately, but you gotta admit the song's are good and she's a great performer, a great singer, a great artist."
In addition to her New Year's Eve plans, Cyrus also booked another gig recently. She'll be hosting the premiere of Beacher's Madhouse with showman and club founder Jeff Beacher at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Dec. 27.

[Articles] 50 Cent Talks Miley Cyrus

In a recent interview with Complex magazine, the rapper 50 Cent mentioned Miley. Check out what he said below:

What’s your favorite thing to listen to on them [your headphones] right now?
My favorite stuff? It’s changing. If I watch something and it’s on my mind, I’ll have a stronger interest and I’ll be listen more. I was listening to Miley Cyrus after the [VMAs]. Because to me, [she’s making] a creative choice. That’s all. And the things she was doing, I could see Madonna doing it and being accepted immediately. But it’s how they perceive her. And it’s not [by] that creative choice. The perception is "[You're] Hannah Montana, so stay there."

[News] Miley will host the opening of Beacher's Madhouse in Las Vegas

She’s coming in like a wrecking ball.

It has been revealed that Miley Cyrus will host the opening of Beacher’s Madhouse Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino on Dec. 27.

Cyrus seems a perfect fit to host the opening of the Vegas hotspot, too. The “Party in the USA” singer is already a fixture at Beacher’s L.A. flagship club, where she’s frequently perched inside the VIP “birdcage.”

It was there that Cyrus celebrated her 21st birthday in November. Cyrus also chose a Lower East Side pop-up version of the Cali club to fete the release of her album “Bangerz” in October.

So far, there is no further information. We'll wait.

[Video] Miley Discusses Broken Engagement in an interview with Barbara Walters

Miley Cyrus has spoken out about her former engagement to Liam Hemsworth, saying she “wouldn’t change being engaged” but admitting she was too young to make such a big commitment.
“I don’t think I realized what 19 really is and I got engaged at 19,” explained the former Disney star.
“I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged – it was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years! – but now I just feel like I can actually be happy.”
The twerking girl made the confession during an in-depth interview with American television host Barbara Walters for her annual segment Barbara Walters Presents The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013.
Explaining the reason she stayed in the relationship with the Hunger Games star (and Chris Hemsworth’s baby bro), Miley said: “I was so scared of ever being alone.”
“I think conquering that fear this year was actually bigger than any other transition that I had this entire year,” she added.
In a preview of the interview, Miley also admitted: “I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them you can’t be yourself.”
While she said she still hopes to get married in the future, at the moment Miley’s happy on her own: “I wait for those moments of silence when I’m at my house just by myself,” she explained.
The full interview will be aired in the US on Wednesday (18 December).

[Articles] How Miley Cyrus Called The Shots In 2013, And Conquered All

Like all revolutions, this one started with a single shot.

On March 20, 2013, when Miley Cyrus posted a video of her twerking to J Dash's "WOP," we had no way of knowing it was the preamble to her Declaration of Independence, that with each posterior pop she was further distancing herself from her Disney-fied past and beginning her bid to become the most audacious star in pop. Mostly we were just wondering why she was wearing a unicorn onesie.
(...)
Ultimately, that's what separates her from the rest of the field. Compared to the Arianas and the Selenas of the world, Miley's decisions don't feel as if they're the end product of branding meetings and focus groups. Instead, they are unfiltered (and unhinged) to the max. And sure, both Katy and Gaga featured rappers on their respective albums this year, but they felt more like after-the-fact accessories. Miley, on the other hand, seemed to include French Montana or Big Sean on Bangerz mainly because she was, first and foremost, a fan. Let the critics cry about cultural appropriation ... Miley's just going to keep doing her thing, partially because she's just 21, but mostly because she spent the first 10 years of her career doing anything but.

Make no mistake, Miley's independence has been hard fought; and now that she's the one in control, good luck trying to wrest it away from her. It would be easy to chalk up her 2013 success to pure luck, but that would be selling her short. Perhaps it's time we all give her credit, not just for making all the calls, but doing so without fear or hesitation. Will others attempt to replicate her IDGAF-style career reinvention in 2014? Almost certainly. Will they succeed? Probably not. If we've learned anything this year, there's only one Miley Cyrus.

And to think, it all started with one twerk video.

[Lists] MTV's Best Artists Of 2013: #1 Miley Cyrus

If you were too busy twerking in 2013, you may have missed a year that saw lots of really great music. In addition to welcoming back some old favorites, there were also fresh (and feisty) newcomers to the charts.
(...)
But it turns out 2013 was also the perfect year for artists to reinvent themselves. Bruno Mars became a 'fro-rocking sex machine and Miley Cyrus proved that she really "can't be tamed" after all.

The 10 artists who make up MTV's list this year were all ranked based on our criteria, including sales, air play, live performances, cultural impact, social impact and their general ability to keep us buzzing during the period between January 1 and December 6. Here are the Best Artists of 2013!

1. Miley Cyrus
In hindsight, it seems ridiculous that we spent so much time focusing on the supposed "a-POP-calyptic" showdown between Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Miley came in like a Wrecking Ball, declaring her independence and dominating the pop-culture landscape. Whether it was the tongue, the twerk-tastic VMA performance or the Terry photo shoot, there's no denying there was a method to Miley's madness, the kind that could only be orchestrated by a 21-year-old who's been in the business for nearly a decade. She schooled — and shocked — us all in 2013, and did so on her own terms. All hail the new Queen of Pop
