[Interview] Miley Meets the Flaming Lips: Inside Their Unlikely Collaboration
Last fall, Miley Cyrus broke off her engagement and found herself living alone for the first time in her life. Then, to make matters worse, in April her dog Floyd was killed by coyotes. "It's the fucking worst," she says. "I always depended on my boyfriend, and then my dog kind of replaced him." But she found comfort in an unlikely source: the tripped-out music of the Flaming Lips. "Floyd and I always listened to the Flaming Lips," she says. "So now when I listen to that music, I totally feel the presence of him still being there, you know?"
Now, Cyrus and the Lips have joined forces, both onstage and in the studio. Their friendship started late last year when Cyrus read a Rolling Stone interview with frontman Wayne Coyne. "He said he liked my show where I dressed as a mushroom and a rainbow," she says. In February, Cyrus invited two of the Lips onstage in L.A. to perform the band's "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots." "Our shows are very childlike, like kids on acid, and hers are too," says Coyne. "We're so much alike in believing art is supposed to be fun. She's just a freak. I love her to death."
The next month, on a hungover off-day from Cyrus' Bangerz tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma, they hit a studio to record what Coyne calls "completely weird" versions of the Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and "A Day in the Life." "They taught me to sing into the sadness, and that's helped me a lot on tour," Cyrus says. "Because I would've felt like I can't keep smiling, and I can't, like, go dance on this gold car, and act like I'm happy when I'm fucking not." (Cyrus had to reschedule dates on her current tour after being hospitalized for an allergic reaction.)
The party continued outside the studio; Cyrus and the band have gone clubbing, gotten tattoos on their lips and attended a 2 Chainz show. They're even writing songs together for Cyrus' next album – which she hopes to cut with her new friends after the Bangerz tour wraps. "On my last record, everything we did was with computers," she says. "But they're real musicians – they can change keys on a whim. I've never seen anything like it. They've had me on this journey that's greater than anything I've been on. It's really deep."

Miley has quite comfortably made herself the most talked about person in the world and should be shown respect, says the Sunday People's Katie Hind
Here we go again, Miley Cyrus has shocked us. The nation is up in arms because she pretends to put her mouth around an enormous plastic penis. She pretends to perform a sex act on a blow up doll with male genitalia.
We’re all carrying on like she’s committed a string of murders.
I, though, am very proud. Not for many years have we seen a stronger image of a self-assured, confident young woman. A young woman who is showing men just what it’s like to be viewed as a plastic object.
Unsurprisingly, it’s the blokes who are most shocked here. I mean, how very dare young Miley get up on stage and cavort with a blow up doll? Men have been taking them on stag do's for years, have you heard any complaints? Er, nope. It’s alright for them to objectify women in that fashion, isn’t it?
Far from being a dreadful human being, the 21-year-old singer is in fact breaking into what has always been a male dominated world. She’s empowering women of all ages. And she’s loving every minute of it.
In the early hours of this morning, a packed out G-A-Y nightclub went crazy for her, they paid their money to get in and they were entertained. Miley, it seems, enjoyed herself too.
So why the uproar?
I shall tell you precisely why... because she’s asserting power. Yes, little 21-year-old, five feet tall Miley - the girl known for so many years as a timid little Disney character - has grown up.
Rather than be the victim of sexism (Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines video, anyone?), just because she isn’t a “busty blonde” who is desperate to be the next Katie Price by posing for mens’ magazines, we’ve all got a problem with her, right? Just because she’s not letting a man use her for his own pleasure, we’re all up in arms. Yawn.
Can we give this young woman some respect, please? It takes someone very stupid to think that she is not orchestrating this herself. Of course she is.
She knows precisely what she’s doing. She’s got a lovely singing voice but where’s that going to get her?
Miley is very, very intelligent woman of the world. She has grown up in the showbusiness industry, she is choosing to do these things - because she WANTS to. There is nobody making her. She well and truly calls the shots.
At the young age of 21, Miley has quite comfortably made herself the most talked about person in the world. She’s sold millions of records and packed out music venues around the globe. Not a bad place to be, in my view.
And as for the parents who are jumping on their high horses, telling us what a bad role model she is. Here’s something: Don’t take your kids to see her then.
If, by now, said mummies and daddies don’t know what will happen on those stages, then that’s their problem, not Miley’s. Hannah Montana is frankly, a thing of the past, whether those adults with worryingly short-sighted views like it or not.
To use that utterly dreadful cringe-worthy saying: You go girl. Your critics, well, they’re just very jealous. Very jealous indeed.

Last night, before her mini concert at G-A-Y club, Miley was spotted leaving the C London restaurant in London with a couple of friends after celebrating Cheyne Thomas's birthday! Cyrus looked stunning with a black mini dress and diamond necklace. Check out the candids in the gallery. :)

[News] Arctic Monkeys praise Miley Cyrus's cover of 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?'
Earlier this week, pop songstress Miley Cyrus performed a cover of Arctic Monkeys' 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?' and the band's drummer Matt Helders has now praised her attempt.
She treated the audience at her London Bangerz date to a rendition of the track and Helders has since told Australian radio station Triple J that he really liked her cover.
During the interview, Helders explained:
"I think Miley Cyrus's version of 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?'... She did some bits in there I wish we'd have done. She gets higher than we can... in the voice."
The 'We Can't Stop' beauty, meanwhile, was recently confirmed to perform at Capital FM's Summertime Ball, which will be held at Wembley Stadium on June 21. Other acts that will play live sets include 5 Seconds Of Summer, The Vamps, and 'Burn' hitmaker Ellie Goulding.
